Manaaki Tāngata | Victim Support is an organisation dedicated to upholding the mana and wellbeing of individuals who have been affected by crime, suicide and traumatic events across Aotearoa New Zealand.

We are driven by a singular purpose — to offer support in times of need. Our team is built on diverse experiences and backgrounds, united under a shared vision to lend a helping hand and offer comfort during challenging times.

Why work with us?

As a volunteer you will work alongside our staff teams to support individuals who have been affected by crime, suicide and traumatic events. This could be anything from burglary to an assault or a road death.

Volunteers make an incredible difference by providing much needed information and support to people through times of crisis, helping them to recover, make decisions about their future and move forward.

You will be providing emotional and practical support over the telephone or face to face.

We believe

Choosing to work with Manaaki Tāngata | Victim Support means becoming part of a community that truly cares. We believe in empowering our people as much as those we serve, offering a work environment that prioritises our team's wellbeing.

We know that it is our people who are the heart of the mahi we do, and we strive to create a workspace that reflects our gratitude and commitment to their care.

We make a difference

Every day, our team members make tangible differences in the lives of people across Aotearoa New Zealand whether it's through the compassionate support they offer or the advocacy they undertake.
This impact extends not only to the individuals we support directly but also to the wider community as we foster a society where empathy, care and justice thrive.

Welcome!

We welcome you to become part of our community and share in the rewarding journey of helping others navigate their paths towards healing and recovery.

It’s a privilege to be able to do this. We walk into people’s lives when they’re at their most vulnerable, and they let in a complete stranger. That is so humbling." - Chris

Our Contact Service Workers serve as the first point of contact, providing compassionate and efficient support 24/7 on a regularly updated roster, based in Wellington’s Police National Headquarters. You'll need to welcome diversity, demonstrate excellent phone etiquette, and manage high call volumes while maintaining sound judgment. This critical role allows you to make a tangible difference in people’s lives, connecting them with the resources and assistance they need to begin their journey of recovery.

As a Support Worker, you’ll be passionate about our mission: to support and empower victims, ensuring their safety, facilitating their healing, and advocating for their participation at every step of their journey. You’ll work hand-in-hand with those who have asked for help, ensuring their needs are understood and met while offering them emotional support and access to essential services and resources.

Service Coordinator

Service Coordinators work closely with the Area Manager to ensure we are proactively meeting the needs of victims, by planning, organising, and allocating work to allow your team of Support Workers to help as many people as possible. You will provide end-to-end case management, prioritising support where needed most and providing direct support when necessary. Join us in making a real difference in people's lives.
